why did the other children treat janie badly?

Oh yes, they also tease Janie about the fact that Mr. Washburn’s dogs hunted her father down after he got her mother pregnant. They think that is very funny. Ironically they fail to acknowledge that Janie's father actually wanted to marry her mother.
