The Things They Carried

In my opinion, O'Brien's language illustrates his feelings about the war. He doesn't try to smoothe things over, to make the war seem glorious, and most certainly not to malign his comrades. His language is honest and subjective.... truthful, real, and apt for the subject matter he discusses.
