In the book by Erik Larson, Beaverbrook’s “Spitfire Fund” was a public fundraising campaign to help pay for the production of Supermarine Spitfire fighter planes during World War II. It started when newspaper groups and communities began raising money to support the British war effort and increase aircraft production.

The campaign grew quickly as towns, organizations, and citizens donated money, often enough to sponsor entire fighter planes. It became a powerful symbol of public unity and determination to strengthen the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain.
