Chillingworth is Hester's husband, and as such was cold and difficult.... hard to get along with. Roger was much older than Hester and vry intelligent... considered a scholar. In America, Chillingworth was held captive by Native Americans, from whom he'd learned about herbs and the medicinal properties of plants.
