Would most people facing battle share the fears that Henry has?

I think most people would feel as Henry did. Henry is a protagonist that most anyone can relate to. He begins with the heroic dreams of a boy but quickly learns there is nothing heroic in war. The soldiers aim is survival as he faces the the beast of war. Everybody's natural reaction is to turn and run away. We see through Henry that war is a most unnatural act where even animals flee.
