Why doesn't Charlie attend the football game?

Charlie does attend the football game, although he doesn't believe that he belongs there. In this letter (Oct. 6, 1991) to his "friend," Charlie gives an account of his experiences at a football game, which he is embarrassed to say that he attended. He doesn't consider himself popular enough to attend, further revealing his deep insecurities and constant observation of the social circles around him.
