Kino loves his family. At the beginning of the story, he hears the song of the family in his head. Unfortunately, Kino looses context of his family as the pearl offers the idea of wealth for his family rather than stability. Kino chooses the promise of purchasing a gun, buying nice clothes, and sending Coyotito to school over the stability of being poor.
