in "the pearl" kino says go thou also with god. what does that mean?

i am so confused :/

In Chapter 5 Juan Thomas says this as well,

Juan Tomás embraced his brother with the double embrace and kissed him on both cheeks. "Go with God,"

Kino has also said this yet the statement becomes an irony. Kino has also said that the Gods are against him. "Go with God" is meant as a statement of protection. Kino knows that the Pearl is unatural and the Gods are not on his side.
