Over the course of the novel, Madame Loisel, who believes herself cheated in life and destined for better, comes to experience the true meaning of poverty and hard work. She transforms from a petulant, spoiled, young wife into an overworked, aged woman right before our eyes. In the end, Madame Loisel learns that if she had only been happy with what she had, and that is she had only told the truth instead of making presumptions..... he life would have remained the same.
