What does the change in relationship with gregor tell you about Gregor's father? Significance?

 Gregor's father abandons his son pretty quickly. It would seem that Gregors father missed his son's paycheck more than he missed Gregor. Gregor's father actually wants to kill his son at one point.  His father is angry that he has to go to work but soon finds his job fulfilling. This estranges him from his son even more.
