What did they discover at the Cliff in Ch.35? How did they figure it all out?

Thomas and Minho discover that the Grievers disappear over the cliff edge and realize that there must be a way to get out. The boys test their hypothesis by throwing rocks at the sky until one of their rocks disappears into the sky, rather then tumble into the abyss.
