5.c) The writer makes an initial mention of stones - "Bobby Martin had already stuffed his pockets full of stones..." - but then not again until the end of the story. What might have been her purpose in doing this? How effective is this?

The stones foreshadowed the eventual stoning, even by kids related to the victim, at the end of the story.
