Grover wants a searcher's license in order to find Pan. His father was a searcher, as was his uncle, and each if them spent their lives searching for Pan..... to find his hiding place..... to wake him up. Grover wants to be the first searcher to make it back alive..... bith his father and uncle died in the process.

"And you want to be a searcher."
"It's my life's dream," he said. "My father was a searcher. And my Uncle Ferdinand ... the statue you
saw back there—"
"Oh, right, sorry."
Grover shook his head. "Uncle Ferdinand knew the risks. So did my dad. But I'll succeed. I'll be the first
searcher to return alive."
