The Last Samurai

What did Captain Algren's sword say at the end of the movie?

Katsumoto presented Captain Algren with a sword prior to the final battle. Algren asked what it said, to which Katsumoto replied "I belong to the warrior in whom the old ways have joined the new." From what I could make out of the text, it says this: 「今古有神奉志土」 which seems to just be gibberish. I never learned Kanji, so I have no clue what it says... does it actually mean what Katsumoto claimed it did, or does it mean something else? Did I even type it out correctly, or did I make a mistake that completely changes the meaning of the phrase? I went based off a low-resolution image, so I very easily could have made a mistake.
