I was saddened by Hassan's death.... not surprised or shocked.... appalled.
My reaction to Baba's secret was to wonder why he couldn't have saved everyone so much grief by simply admitted Hassan was his son.
Baba was a tough, well respected man, but he couldn't bring himself to do the right thing.... to claim his own child. Instead, he allowed Hassan and Ali to leave, and he left Hassan, his son, behind when he and Amir left for America.
