The Hunger Games are really just entertainment for the Capitol. The districts are sacrificed for the Capitol. The games also break moral of the districts and keep them in servitude.

The Hunger games are not only entertainment for the Capitol, but also a punishment for the Districts. Long ago, North America was spilt up in the Capitol and 13 Districts. The Hunger Games had not been invented yet. The Districts disagreed with the Capitol greatly and decided to rebel. During the rebellion, which was known as the Dark Days, District 13 was obliterated and the remaining Districts were defeated. As punishment for their ancestors crimes against the them, the Capitol created the Hunger Games.
