Dr Mortimer needed Sherlock Holmes because of his reputation in solving crimes. Mortimer told Holmes and his assistant Dr Watson about the mysterious death's of the decedents of the famous Sir Hugo Baskerville who killed the innocent girl on the moor then after was killed by the Hound.
