The Hobbit

What are the various forms that Evil assumes in the novel(The Hobbit). Is this question asking for a literal evil(the dragon or figurative(greed) or both?

I don't understand if this question is asking me for a figurative answer or a literal answer. (thank you)

Certainly there are manifestations of literal evil like goblins, Smaug the dragon, wraiths....I think the figurative evil is more interesting. This ring corrupts all who wear it. The power that the ring holds on men's hearts is all consuming. The ring destroys the soul of the wearer by becoming the obsession of the wearer. It clouds the judgment and eventually takes hold of the wearer's spirit.
