why does Gatsby insist on showing Daisy his mansion and his shirts?

Gatsby feels that his immense wealth is his only "in" with Daisy. He knows Daisy is both used to and enthralled with displays of wealth. Gatsby feels this is the only way he can measure up to Tom and hook Daisy in.
