What do you think is the purpose of including the conversation regarding being careful on page 58?

The comment about being careful while driving actually foreshadows an upcoming and life changing occurence in the novel. In addition, Jordan's telling retort is an excellent example of how those in upper society viewed themselves as above everyone else.
