  Personally I think the reader is missing the point if they cannot see the relevance of the title. Still if you must consider Gatsby a not great, there are a few more literal points to consider. Gatsby lives a life shrouded in illusion. He felt he could erase time and pick up with Daisy and be in love. A realist might see this foolish. Gatsby could have done so much with all his wealth but used it to pine after a girl that really did not deserve that kind of attention.
