The Great Gatsby is built on hopes and dreams....... and its main character, Jay Gatsby, believes he has attained the American dream, which he hopes will make his dream of being with Daisy come true. His dreams are an illusion, his actions filled with hope.......... these words are used to signify that much of what Gatsy believes and the majority of his actions are based upon are not based on reality.
