Why does Daisy's words, "I loved you, too" cut Gatsby so deeply?
Gatsby thought that Daisy had never loved Tom..... he never accepted that she loved Tom, nor could he accept that she'd loved them both. His own love had been so focused that he couldn't see that Daisy's love was shared.
