The Golden Compass

While looking for shelter, Lyra and Pantalaimon are accosted by two men who attempt to capture them with a net. Pantalaimon attacks one of the accoster's daemon, which is a fox, but is he is badly beaten. Lyra, of course, can feel the pain of the attack. As the men are binding Lyra's legs and hands, they are shot and killed by arrows. Tony Costa, a gypsy, and two others rescue her.
