The Giver Chapter 13

Jonas tells the giver that he would like to make decisions, to decide things. he is reminded that the elders in his community have taken decision-making out of the hands of the people. on page 98, jonas says "we really have to protect people from wrong choices" what does he means by this statements

Jonas means that people don't get to make big mistakes and face the consequences of their mistakes. The people do not mature from their mistakes. They don't learn and evolve as human beings. Consequently, they lack emotional intelligence and sophistication.
