I think Anne wrote her diary for the same reasons any adolescent girl would. She feels the need to confide in something and express her feelings. The diary is made more poignant by the fact of her circumstances. Being cooped up in a small space, always under the threat of being discovered by the Nazis probably only added to Anne's need to vent and make sense of her frustrations and emotions.
