Why does Gitl comfort Hannah, when Hannah had clearyly been ungrateful?

hannah (as Chaya) is given a dress to wear at her uncle schmuel's wedding but she looks at it with disdain.

Gitl wants Hannah to feel good despite her reaction to the dress. The dress is a bit babyish for Hannah. She thinks it is quite ugly. Gitl promises she will look fine and gives her shoes and stockings as well. She fixes up Chaya's hair and has her look herself over in the mirror.
