The Devil and Tom Walker

The Devil and Tom Walker

“At length she [Tom’s wife] was determined to drive the bargain on her own account, and if she succeeded, to keep all the gain herself.”

What is the narrator telling us about Tom’s wife in this quote?

Once again, the narrator is willing to do anything the devil asks in order to gain to treasure, and if Tom wouldn't do it.... she would. If forced to bargain on her own, however, she had no intention of sharing the wealth.
