Parris is a weasel. He is mainly concerned with his power and influence in Salem. He aligns himself with people he thinks will help him get money and manipulate people in the village. Parris covets gold (he really likes his gold candlesticks) and thinks Salem owes him the deed to his house.

Parris also helps orchestrate many of the hangings that take place in Salem. By the end of the play he gets a dagger in his door. People have had enough of him.
