The novel's main conflict revolves around Josh's changing relationship with his twin brother, JB. Josh's life revolves around basketball, and suddenly, the brother he always depended on gets a girlfriend, is never around. The conflict culminates when the boys' father, Chuck, is hospitalized with a bad heart condition.
