how does mameh react to the sailors?

Mameh doesn't trust the sailors and keeps her daughters away from them. She couldn't undersand a word the sailors said, but as soon as they would talk to one of the girls she'd shake her head and tell the girls in Yiddish to make them go away. (Page 57 and 58)
