Like many of us, James begins to see his parents as people, rather than just parents, as he matures into adulthood. He begins to see his mother's indomitable spirit. He sees her motivations for the things she did in her life. Above all James sees the sacrifices his mother made to raise children that were proud, godly, educated, and strong. James understood his stepfather. He understood that Hunter was a kind man but not cut out for the chaos of his family in Queens.
