in the book, it says that Danny's father doesn't want them to be friends anymore, why?

The reason Reb Saunders does not want Danny and Reuven to be friends anymore is because of the different political views that David Malter and Reb Saunders have. David becomes a Zoinist and supports the re-establishment of a new Jewish homeland after the war. While Reb Saunders and his people are against this movement.
