Why do you think the borrowers are so frightened of being seen?

The Borrowers do not want to be seen because it is physically dangerous, but most of all because it is dangerous to the nuclear family. Being discovered might mean the loss of a family member (example; Egglatina's encounter with the cat, from which, she never returned).
