Is Hans Hubermann a courageous man? How does he show courage, or lack of courage?

Hans is a very courageous man. He tries resisting the Nazi party at his own peril. He gives a starving Jewish prisoner a piece of bread. He cleans hate graffiti off of Jewish businesses. Hans is a gentle heroic figure.
