Homeownership created a nation of "stakeholders" because owning property gives people a vested interest in the state of the nation. Pride of ownership is an undeniable.... futures are invested in property..... so are inheritances. Investing and caring for something that belongs to you is completely different than caring for something that belongs to someone else. Putting down roots creates interest in community.... a common interest for homeowners, who intend to stay. It gives people a sense of permanance and a joint sense of pride.
