How does the old man explain the concept of personal legends?

Melchizedek explains that an individual's Personal Legend represents the thing they most was to accomplish life. When people are young, they easily identify their Personal Legends. Over time, however, mysterious forces lead people to beloeve they will never achieve their Personal Legends, and as a result, they are pushed aside.
