A number of gods and goddesses appear in the text. Four are listed below.

Juno is the first of our goddesses and the Queen, the story is based upon her desire for revenge against Paris, a human, who didn't choose her as the greatest beauty among the goddesses. She carried a grudge for a long, long time.

Aeolus, the god of the winds, is the first god to assist Juno in her revenge. He causes a storm at sea, which serves as an impediment to Aeneas.

Venus is Aeneas' mother, she guides and protects him.

Cupid, another of Venus' sons, causes Dido to fall in love with Aeneas.
