Undermining and Resisting nature in Tangerine

There are a number of natural disasters in the novel, Tangerine. The sinkhole would be one (building on unstable ground), the lightning strikes, the muck fires (always burning), the freeze that threatens the crop (heat to keep the tangerines from freezing).
