Paul's identity changes greatly over the course of the novel. When we first meet him, he's the new kid at school..... then his mother pulls out his IEP, and he becomes the goalie who can't play soccer because of a piece of paper. Paul is constantly overshadowed by his older brother..... Paul's father's shining star. Where Erik gets into trouble, Paul makes great choices. He is a hero during the tragic incident with the sink hole, he leaves his school to play soccer somewhere else and he's successful, and in the end, he stands up to the brother who blinded him. Paul also succeeds in making his parents "see" him..... as well as his brother. Paul has great strength of character..... he is loyal, determined, a good friend, and willing to stand up for himself and others.
