Silas Marner

. Silas Marner has been described as a novel based on "recollected personal experience and feeling," and consequently flawed by "sentimental indulgence." Support or refute this anti-sentimental/pro-realist criticism by direct reference to the text.

I'm sorry, this is a short answer forum. We do not write students essays, although Gradesaver has excellent editing services when you are done with your final draft. For a start, you might want to look at the way Eliot has combined reality and fantasy and the way allegory is to illustrate the fall and redemption of Marner's character.

As far as "recollected personal experience and feeling," it is believed that Eliot based parts of the story on her own life and desire to be recognized as an artist.
