(Chapter 5) Why, when Siddhartha first attempts to meet Kamala, does he direct the servant to introduce him as a “young Brahmin?”

In Chapter 5 when he meets Kamala (he tells the person at the gate for him to be introduced as a young Brahmin)

Siddhartha wants to impress Kamala by sounding like he is of high caste.
