One morning, Crusoe sees five canoes on the beach with thirty natives. They have two prisoners with them. One escapes and tries to run away. To help the man, Crusoe uses his gun to club one of the man's pursuers shoots the other. The freed man kneels at Crusoe's feet and promises to be Crusoe's "Slave for ever".
