What is ironic about Higgins' instructions to Mrs. Pearce about how to deal with Eliza

Higgins consistently tells Mrs. Pearce to throw Eliza out if she doesn't cooperate, but yet Higgins really wants her to stay. At this point, he doesn't want to lose his project.
