Lydia ran away Wickam without taking her marriage vows first. This act might have ruined the family, as her behavior was considered scandlous to say the least. Lydia's actions could have prevented her sisters' own marriages. During this time, reputation was everything...... people refused to socialize with families considered to have low moral standards, let allow them to enter their own families through marriage.
