Mrs. Bennet wants Jane to ride on horseback so that she has to stay all night if the weather turns bad. It does in fact rain and Jane gets quite ill forcing her to stay at Netherfield for several days.This little scheme of mother's is rather manipulative and uses her daughter as a pawn to achieve an outcome she wants.
