Crucifixion

There is another symbol of the crucifixion that you have not mentioned: The very last scene. Terry is beaten by the mob (Roman soldiers), but urged on by Father Barry (God), he is encouraged to walk and lead the men. He is given his hook (cross) and carries it on his shoulder. He goes up the plank (hill to Calvary), falls down once, but presses on to the end. All the men follow him and walk away from Johnny Friendly (the evil one).
