Slim is a wise Christ-figure character. George senses in Slim a person of intelligence and empathy who will not be mean to Lennie or take advantage of him. The other men look up to Slim as a fair and tough foreman. Slim is also a seemingly ageless man who carries himself with great gravity. He gives Lennie one of his new litter of puppies to care for.
