Of Mice and Men

Need help, ASAP. Please?

I have to do a project on Of Mice and Men.. &I don't understand the title of the book. Why did Steinbeck title the book "Of Mice and Men" ? I do not understand where the mice part came from. Please help, asap.

Yes, I know that Lennie has a tendency to always pet something soft, like a mouse, but I do not understand why this little bit of information is so crucial to be put in the title. Please help, asap.

I believe the title comes from the saying, "the best laid plans of mice and men often come to naught." This means no matter how well you plan, things don't always work out. In other words, stuff happens. This is somewhat of a central theme in this novel.
