Curly's wife kind of grows on you over the course of the novel. Yes, she is a pain, she's even someone we're suspicious of.... I mean, what are her motive in consistently doing things to provoke her husband? Well I just answered my own question, she needs attention, even if it's negative attention. Curly's wife is just as lonely as the unmarried men.
